Artist Bio
Rajesh Dhar is a Bangladeshi sculptor and multidisciplinary artist from Cox’s Bazar. He holds a BFA in Sculpture from the University of Dhaka and is currently pursuing an MFA in Sculpture + Expanded Practice at Ohio University. His work has been shown in national and international juried exhibitions in Bangladesh and the United States.
Dhar’s practice examines labor, exploitation, and the human cost of global consumerism. At its center is the Bangladeshi garment industry, which powers his country’s economy while placing the lives of its workers at constant risk. His work gives form to the people behind the clothes the world wears, and to the sacrifices that remain largely unseen.
He works with reclaimed and repurposed materials, including used T-shirts and paper shopping bags, alongside fabric, red thread, and clay. These objects arrive already marked by use and consumption, and Dhar transforms them into sculptures and installations that hold together vulnerability and resilience, violence and endurance.
Through familiar, everyday materials, his work invites viewers to look beyond the products they consume and consider the lives, and the losses, woven into them.
